In a world where humans and dinosaurs coexist, this story follows Amity Pike, the daughter of the town pastor whose teachings she resists. When otherwise tame dinosaurs in her town start breaking loose and turning feral, the townspeople split into teams to fend off the chaos. Among them is a young native man (Amity’s forbidden love interest) who joins the fight. But as the violence escalates—and the irrational, red-eyed dinosaurs refuse to die—Amity tries to work out whether a common "harmless" virus is somehow responsible, or if the blame might fall on wealthy dinocattle baron Magnus Kane (who has been importing meteorites known to control reptiles for centuries abroad). Little by little, though, she begins to wonder if perhaps the dinosaurs are already dead.
